CPS Energy partners with OMNETRIC Group to help define and implement its analytics strategy

As part of its Grid of the Future project, CPS Energy plans to adopt an analytics strategy to deliver a better understanding of customer behaviors and interests and enhance its generation fleet and grid performance.

OMNETRIC Group has been awarded a contract by CPS Energy, the largest municipally owned energy utility in the United States serving more than 772,000 electric and 337,000 natural gas customers in and around San Antonio, Texas, to help the utility define and implement its analytics strategy in order to take advantage of data-generated insights from the power grid, generation fleet, and other resources.

Digitalization of utility-owned assets is essential for utilities to effectively manage the trends disrupting their business models, including the proliferation of distributed energy, storage options, electric vehicles and energy conservation. Utilities are striving to assure more efficiency and reliability while also rethinking their revenue streams. Through this partnership, CPS Energy expects data-generated insights to enable future agility and its capacity to provide tangible benefits to customers.

“For analytics to be valuable, the data used to generate information needs to come from both operations technologies as well as the IT systems which manage related business processes,” said Raiford Smith, VP of Corporate Development and Planning for CPS Energy. “Analytics will be a core competency for CPS Energy, allowing us to enhance our operations and better understand our customers in an effort to provide the best products and services possible. We feel confident we have selected the right partner to bring our analytics strategy to life.”

“We are proud to be working with CPS Energy to make their pioneering vision come to life. It’s a forward-thinking project that will benefit not only CPS Energy, but other utilities throughout the country,” said Vasan Krishnaswamy, VP of Energy Insight, OMNETRIC Group, North America.

The two companies will be jointly presenting next week at Energy Central’s Utility Analytics Week.
